The term, "Grand Old Party," or, simply "GOP," is a kind of nickname for the Republican Party. It is intended to express a certain affection, and belief in the age, pedigree and viability of the party. History, it may be said, has yet to rule on the suitability of this expression. Nevertheless, its use is clearly consistent with the general tendency of "grade inflation" within the contemporary, post-modern culture.
