Although there are a variety of classical definitions of marriage, depending upon the seriousness with which the union is regarded (for example, some consider it to be a contract, while others consider it to be a covenant), there is no clear-cut definition of marriage, nor even an irreducible common denominator, acceptable to all the disparate elements of the post-modern coalition.
